Exceptional care from A to Z.

Our Health Program.

“To ensure our puppy's health we follow a strict preventative parasite and disease prevention health program that includes deworming, Hookworms, Roundworms, Whipworms and Giardia, early vaccination schedule against Parvo, DISTEMPER and ADENOVIRUS TYPE 2, and we also have a prevention program for coccidiosis done at our home.”

— Brittanie Young (Breeder)

In addition to our at-home prevention protocols, we have a complete physical exam done by our vet at 7-8 weeks of age (before puppy pick up/delivery).

We like to give as much details as possible on each of our amazing puppies. Your puppy is guaranteed to be in good health at the time of pick up. Our puppies go home with first shots & wormed by us, with complete physical examination by our vet.

Deworming

Our puppies are first dewormed at 2 weeks of age, and are re-treated every two weeks. By the time they leave us, they will usually have been dewormed three to four times, and have been exposed to different types of dewormers Pyrantel Pamoate (Nemex) hookworms and roundworms,

Safe-Guard Tapeworms (Taenia pisiformis), Roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), Hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala), Whipworms (Trichuris vulpis) along with a new one we have added called Toltrazuril (for prevention of coccidiosis) to ensure broad-spectrum control of normal puppy parasites. Preventative care for coccidiosis, which is a very common intestinal infection in puppies in the United States. Coccidiosis causes diarrhea, and often occurs after a period of stress (weaning, leaving littermates for a new home, etc.). Another common protozoa affecting puppies is giardhia. We preventively treat puppies for this as well because of the commonality of these ailments we have expanded our worming program.

Deworming
Schedule

  • Administer Pyrantel Pamoate (1cc per 10 lbs of body weight) at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days of age.

  • A round of treatment consists of administering the drug Panacur or Safeguard (active ingredient is fenbendazole) for 5 days in a row.  The first fenbendazole treatment begins at 5 weeks of age.  On the first day of treatment administer 2 cc per 4 lbs of body weight.  Administer 1 cc per 4 lbs of body weight on each of the 4 remaining days of treatment (days 2, 3, 4 and 5).  Administer the second fenbendazole treatment beginning at 7 weeks of age.  On the first day of treatment administer 2 cc per 4 lbs of body weight.  Administer 1 cc per 4 lbs of body weight on each of the 4 remaining days of treatment (days 2, 3, 4 and 5).  If you still have the puppies at 9 weeks of age, administer another round of treatment.  These intestinal parasites can also be reduced in puppies by treating the pregnant female.  Deworm the pregnant female using fenbendazole for 5 days beginning at approximately 50 days of gestation to reduce the passage of intestinal parasites to the puppies.

  • You can use Albon (active ingredient sulfadimethoxine), Marquis (active ingredient Ponazuril) or Toltrazuril.  Ponazuril and Toltrazuril are essentially the same drug and these drugs are cheaper and easier to use than Albon.  So, I suggest using either of these 2 drugs.  The dosage of Ponazuril or Toltrazuril depends on the strength of the drug (10% solution…1 cc per 10 lbs of body weight, 5% solution…1 cc per 5 lbs of body weight, 2.5% solution…1 cc per 2.5 lbs of body weight).  Administer Ponazuril or Toltrazuril 4 days of after whelping and then again at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 weeks of age.

If you are using Marquis, mix 1 part Marquis (ponazuril) with 3 parts of distilled water and vigorously mix the suspension.  Administer 1cc per 3 lbs of body weight of the suspension to puppies at 4 days of age, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 weeks of age.

Vaccinations

  • A parvovirus vaccine with a modified live virus.

Induces protection against the most lethal and prevalent viral disease of dogs, canine parvovirus. Neopar has been known to cut through mom’s remaining antibodies and give early protection.  We administer this vaccination at 35 days and 49 days.

If Parvo has been introduced to the environment puppies maybe vaccinated at 28 days, 35 days and 49 days of age.

If a puppy is still in our care they will be vaccinated on 70 days and 98 days of age.

  • A modified live virus vaccination against distemper and Adenovirus type 2; it contains the essential viruses for core protection against the most lethal and prevalent respiratory viral diseases of dogs. NeoVac has been known to cut through mom’s remaining antibodies and give early protection.

We administer this vaccination at 42 days and 56 days.

If a puppy is still in our care they will be vaccinated on 70 days and 98 days of age.
